When entering the world of cloth nappies for the first time it can be very overwhelming. The design, style and fit vary, as does the material used. This is often explained in terminology and acronyms that make very little sense.

We are here to break it down and outline exactly what you can expect from Kinship nappies, and why.

We have packaged A LOT of features into our design that has resulted in a premium product. A trim fit design that will fit from newborn to toilet training with multiple insert options and variations that enables the user to customise their nappy set up to suit their baby, eg, you can clip and fold inserts to create more absorbency at the front for a boy, or underneath for a girl. As well as a true newborn insert that fits when the nappy is completely snapped down to its smallest setting.  We thought through every aspect of our design, right down to label placement. Trust us – it’s important! Having a label sewn into the existing seam helps prevent leaks in the nappy shell by minimising leak points (holes) in the waterproof cover. The details matter.

 

THE NAPPY SHELL

The nappy shell, or nappy cover is the outer waterproof cover. Our nappy shell features the following:

All-in-two pocket design with suede cloth inner

Here at Kinship, we are big fans of versatility. That’s why we have created a pocket design nappy that can be customised to suit your preferences. You can stuff the inserts into the pocket, or just sit or clip them directly to the shell – no stuffing required. Having an all-in-two design allows you to customise your inserts to your babies needs. The soft suede cloth inner lining will allow moisture to pass through quickly into the inserts to maintain dryness against your baby’s skin.

Double outer gusset

Our nappy has a small external double gusset. This will help contain contents by maintaining a snug leg seal, whilst also allowing extra room for inserts. When fitted correctly, the leg seal will remain when your baby is sitting or walking, and won’t gape when you add extra inserts.

Stay-dry panel at the back and front

The waterproof PUL fabric extends over to the inside at the front and the back of the nappy. This helps prevent leaks by providing a stay-dry panel. As the inserts absorb moisture, this will be distributed throughout the insert and can reach to the front and back of the nappy. The stay-dry panel will help prevent leaks from moisture wicking onto baby’s skin or clothes.

Thick back elastic

The thick back elastic will provide extra comfort for your baby and reduce movement of the nappy once fitted.

Tummy elastic

The added tummy elastic provides a snug fit without being too tight around the waist. It allows for extra movement when baby is sitting and will help prevent leaks for tummy sleepers.

Wide opening pocket

Our nappy has both a wide front and back opening for ease of stuffing. The suede inner lining is not sewn into the outer gusset to allow extra room for larger hands and to fit additional inserts.

Front and back insert snaps

Our design includes snaps at the front and back of the nappy to allow you to clip your inserts in either end. You can also clip one at each! Clipping your inserts in will help prevent movement, or your inserts dropping when your baby is standing and walking.

 

OUR INSERTS

Each of our nappies come with dual inserts included. This consists of a long and a short insert. Each insert has double snaps to minimise movement when clipped into the nappy.

Long Insert

The long insert is a snake insert, made from 5 layers of bamboo terry. The insert can be folded in half and clipped to itself, or folded to suit where your baby needs the most absorbency. The wide end can be clipped to the front or the back of the nappy, depending on your preference. It can be used alone, or with the smaller insert for added absorbency.  

Short Insert

This insert is a true newborn size and will fit snug in the nappy when completely snapped down to the smallest setting. Made from 4 layers of hemp, this super absorbent insert can be used on its own, or together with the long insert for extra absorbency as your baby grows. It is 100% hemp which is not only a highly sustainable choice of material, but also very absorbent. The short insert can be clipped directly into the nappy at the front or back opening, or clipped onto the long insert.
